Spring Workshop Series: Top-Working Fruit Trees: Saturday, APRIL 12th, 2025 11am-1pm
Wish you could add an additional variety of fruit to an existing tree?
Want to add a pollination partner for a fruit tree in your yard, but don’t have space for another tree?
Need to replace or repair a broken limb?
Want to swap out the fruit you are growing for a tastier variety while taking advantage of the existing root system?
Top-working may be for you!
“Top-working” is a term used to describe the process of grafting (“adding”) new varieties onto an existing tree.
In this grafting technique, “scions” (short cuttings from your new, desired variety) are inserted into specially cut surfaces on limbs or branches of the existing tree, where they fuse and eventually grow together.
This workshop will teach you about grafting tools, compatibility (which species can you graft to another species), and different methods and techniques for top-working. There will be a demonstration followed by an opportunity for workshop participants to receive some guided hands-on practice making proper grafting cuts.
Know before you go:
All workshops are held outdoors rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather!
Winter Weather Advisory:
If the CCC campus closes due to inclement weather, the Home Orchard Education Center will also be closed and any scheduled workshops will be rescheduled for a later date. Extreme weather closure alerts can be found here: https://www.clackamas.edu/
Refunds:
Due to limited class space, please note: workshops are non-refundable after purchase, with the exception of weather-related campus closures when rescheduling the workshop is not possible.
We look forward to learning with you!
